Thriving in finance: Why women are excelling

Thriving in finance Why women are excelling

How important is it to you that your adviser provides financial advice as well as support? As the world becomes more complex, the demand for professional advice has skyrocketed. Often, much of the reassurance advisers provide extends far beyond the numbers. Support, by being a sounding board during life’s biggest decisions becomes invaluable. For the next few minutes, we are delighted to highlight why women are excelling in finance.

The Australian finance industry has been actively championing gender diversity in recent years, providing numerous opportunities for women to advance in their careers. This is warranted given only 28 per cent of registered Australian financial planners are female. Fortunately, thanks to government initiatives such as a $1.5 million scholarship program for women in finance and economics, and support through the Financial Planning Association’s Women in Financial Planning program, more women are discovering financial advice as a career, accepting opportunities and thriving in their roles.

Complimenting the above initiatives, many women inherently possess some of the most crucial skills that make a good adviser great. Women tend to excel at listening empathetically, practising patience, and building genuine relationships. Typically skilled in emotional intelligence, empathy, and communication, women are thriving as advisers. These natural traits can help to aid effective communication, which is imperative in adviser/client relationships. Of course, we’re biased, but our team really are advocates for financial advising as a rewarding and fulfilling career. We’re thankful that more women are seeing this too.

Many people are drawn to professions that allow them to improve the lives of others or make a difference. As such, with better understanding and visibility of the financial advice industry growing, increasing demand and appreciation for the profession is gaining momentum, and women are progressively signing up – drawn to a career that can allow them to make a positive impact. Through building genuine relationships that support delivering exceptional and highly technical advice, female advisers are making a significant positive difference to their clients’ lives that is so much more than transactional.

More than ever, women are being recognised for their unique perspectives and skills in an industry that has previously overlooked them. The rise of female financial advisers in Australia is an inspiring movement towards greater gender diversity and equality. This is a time for celebration, as women lead the way in financial advising and inspire future generations of female leaders in finance. Our team is exceptional regardless of their gender, but if this article resonates with you enough to spread the word to the women in your life about finance as a career, we will always endeavour to leverage this. If you know someone looking to achieve their bigger-future, we would love to meet them.
