The changing face of financial planning in Australia

Once the domain of aging men, one award-winning firm in Queensland is leading the way for diversity in the profession.

Based in Mackay and Brisbane, 2022 FPA Professional Practice of the Year firm, Alman Partners True Wealth is taking charge of inspiring and supporting up-and-coming women in the financial advice arena. As a Partnership of 8, 3 are women and some of the highest qualified in the profession. 9 out of their 13 Advisers and Associates are female, and with a dedicated training and advancement platform, Alman Partners has a clear pathway for anyone wanting to become an expert Financial Adviser, guiding Associates on their journey to becoming CFP Professionals, the highest qualification in the profession.

Senior Financial Adviser & Partner, Teneale Laister stated, “Empowering women in our profession is truly a passion of mine. Beginning my journey as the firm’s receptionist, I moved through my studies onto the role of Paraplanner, Adviser and then Partner, the youngest in our firm’s history. Providing support and guidance to others on their own journey has become a focus of not just mine, but our entire Partnership.”

In 2022, Teneale was named a finalist in the ifa Women in Finance Awards – Principal of the Year and in 2021, finalist for Financial Adviser of the Year. Financial Adviser Kelsey Dent was also named a Young Adviser of the Year (<30) finalist in the ifa Excellence Awards in 2021.

With a mission to Lead, Educate and Inspire, Alman Partners promotes the Financial Planning profession through community education sessions, radio segments on ABC Tropical North Radio and a scholarship programme for those studying financial planning through CQ University.

“We are passionate about providing our clients and the broader community with the highest level of financial expertise. Alman Partners provides our clients with the confidence that no matter what happens in the markets, the economy or the world, they have a high probability of achieving their most important goals,” said Teneale Laister.

As an independent holistic Advice firm, Alman Partners builds long-term relationships with their clients, gaining a thorough understanding of their financial circumstances, goals and aspirations, then applying world-class investment solutions.

“We have also made the access for advice much easier for people who traditionally cannot afford full-service financial advice. Our AP Direct Invest platform provides 6 low-cost model portfolios that people can access online, providing a vehicle for them to start their investment journey,” said Managing Partner, Stephen Lowry.

Alman Partners has seen both development and challenges in the profession during their 37 years in operation in Queensland, and are excited for the many opportunities available for the next generation of Advisers.
